Sheriff Joe Arpaio Hires Former Mckinney Officer Eric Casebolt

Phoenix, Arizona — In a controversial decision made today, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced that he has hired former McKinney police officer Eric Casebolt to head up his SWAT unit.

Casebolt, who is best known for his antics in the McKinney pool video where he was seen slamming a bikini-clad girl to the ground, drawing his gun on unarmed children and barrel rolling, resigned on Tuesday from the McKinney Police Department amid outcries from thousands of people around the country demanding his termination.

Arpaio told CNN he hired Casebolt because he would be a good addition to the Phoenix Police Department.

“We need more cops like Eric Casebolt, officers who are tough on crime and not afraid to get dirty,” Arpaio said. “Eric Casebolt will be a great addition to the fine men and women of the Phoenix Police Department.”

Controversial actions are nothing new for Arpaio, who is currently fighting a lawsuit from the Justice Department. From allegations of racial profiling to atrocious jail conditions, the hiring of Casebolt is just business as usual for the Arizona sheriff.

McKinney’s Police Chief Greg Conley announced Casebolt’s resignation and called his actions “indefensible.”

“Our policies, our training, our practice, do not support his actions,” Conley said. “He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows, was out of control during the incident.”

36-year-old Phoenix resident, Paul Horner, told local news station ABC 15 he does not agree with the decision made by Arpaio.

“That’s all we need in Arizona is another racist police officer,” Horner said. “I’m glad that I’m white.” Horner finished by saying, “I also just want to give a quick shout-out to my awesome brother Brian, my brother JJ, who is an amazing artist and co-founder of Pyramid Country, and to my mom, my biggest fan… without you, none of this would be possible. I love you guys!”

Prior to his resignation, Casebolt had been on administrative leave as police investigated what happened at McKinney’s Craig Ranch community last Friday.

Before working for the McKinney Police Department, Casebolt, 40, served in the U.S. Navy from 1993 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, he worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety as a state trooper. In August of that same year, he began working for McKinney police.
