Have You Been Hurt on a Bus?

If you have been injured in an accident, the lawyer you hire to represent you in the case could be part of the final decision when it comes to being compensated. Because of this, it’s important that you shop around for a lawyer instead of settling for the first name that comes up.

I wish I could tell you I was never in the need of a personal injury lawyer, but that isn’t the case. Luckily for me, a close friend had recently been injured in a car accident that wasn’t her fault and knew exactly who I needed to call.

After being away from my family and hometown for over five years, I decided it was time to go on a trip. My wife and I had moved across the country when we started a family of our own, and life happening at full speed had prevented me from being able to revisit where I had grown up. A homesickness I could no longer ignore was finally enough to start making plans for the trip.

Heading home

In order to save some money, I decided to take a bus for the trip instead of purchasing a plane ticket. I knew that I would lose two days worth of time that could have spent with my family, but money was tight, especially with planning the trip on a short notice. Missing out on the extra time was a sacrifice I was willing to make in order to be sure the trip was something I could afford.

As the few weeks went by, the excitement grew as my departure date approached. I had plans to visit several people and places during the short time I would be at home. The big day finally arrived and I was on my way. I loaded the bus knowing that within a day and a half, I would finally be at home.

After leaving Oklahoma, the miles actually went by much faster than I had anticipated. I was able to meet a few interesting people on the bus and time was spent in friendly conversation. With day one of the trip coming to an end, I decided I would try to get as much sleep as I could before reaching my destination. Excitement kept me awake for a while, but I was eventually able to drift off to sleep.

Rude awakening

I am not sure if I was awakened before I was tossed from my seat or after, but I was definitely awake when I crashed into another passenger two seats in front of me and then fell to the floor. All I can remember is the sharp pain that instantly shot up my back. The pain was significant enough that I had difficulty moving my right arm. At the moment, making it back to me feet was out of the question.

After emergency personnel arrived to the scene, I decided against a ride to a local hospital. I was sure the accident would create enough of a delay in arriving home and I wasn’t about to risk making it take even longer. The bus company had sent a different bus to pick up the passengers who would be continuing on with the trip.

By the time I completed the final bus transfer and finally arrived home, it took everything I had to simply walk off the bus. I had never experienced pain that intense. The fact that it was in my back created an effect on the rest of my body.

After spending the first day of my trip at the hospital, I made a call to The Doan Law Firm to see exactly what my options were, just like my friend had suggested. Although I was still suffering from a great amount of pain, I found comfort in the law team that was going to work for me.
