We’ve all already started making plans for the summer. The sea must be seen, the tan must be darkened, and the hair must be lightened. These aren’t the three commandments of God, but as if they were. It’s up to you to choose where you’ll go this summer, and when you get there, you need to choose what to eat.
People who enjoy food are our kind of people. We all know someone who organizes their days around the meals they eat, so if you’re one of those, we’re sure you can imagine what it looks like when they travel. Before you go on the road, you study well what you need to visit, and after that, you find out which restaurants you should go to. If the coast of Italy is your choice this year, we did the job for you. We present to you the restaurants you must go to if you visit the coast of Italy this summer.
Amalfi Coast
The city of Amalfi is located in southwestern Italy and is surrounded by beautiful nature. From the 9th to the 11th century, it was a very important maritime republic, which is why many traditional recipes were created in this city. The famous flavors of tomato sauce, thyme, and olive oil can be felt as soon as you walk the streets of Amalfi. The whole coast is named after this city and it’s impossible to visit Italy and not go to Amalfi. So, when you find yourself in this beautiful city, be sure to go to one of the following restaurants:
De Gemma is a restaurant that will offer you two things: top-quality seafood and meat dishes. On the menu, you can find everything from seafood, to juicy steaks, and vegetarian options. Sit on the terrace of the restaurant so you can fully enjoy the complete Italian atmosphere. If you’re in the mood for pasta that day, be sure to try the paccheri pasta for which the restaurant is famous.
If you’re in the mood to eat something along the way and continue walking around the city, then stop by Cuoppo d’Amalfi street food restaurant. You’ll eat something in it that you’ve probably never tried before. In this restaurant, they make something that we’d best be able to explain as seafood gyros. Of course, it’s not gyros, but they have a kind of pie that they fill with fried seafood that you choose. The pie is juicy, the fish is perfectly salted, and there are a handful of sauces. You’ll find many options, from fried squid, shrimp, sardines… and each option will be a complete hit!
This is one of the best restaurants on the Amalfi Coast and is located in the woods, just above the city. In addition to the beautiful location, what sets it apart is that it’s a family restaurant that you can only approach if you walk to it, but the food you’ll eat there will make up for the hardships you went through. In the restaurant, you can eat fresh local fruits and vegetables, but also the meat of animals from the farm next to the restaurant. This restaurant completely changes the concept of farm-fresh because everything is really extremely fresh.
Positano
Positano is a city we all think of when someone mentions the coast of Italy. This city is an ideal place if you want to feel that luxurious Italian life, but also to have an unforgettable night out, with good drinks and even tastier food. You must have seen the coast full of colorful houses that are a direct association with this small place located right by the sea.
When you visit Positano, on the list of restaurants that you must visit put De Adolfo, which is famous for fresh fish and seafood and was formed back in the 60s. The restaurant is located not far from the bathing area and you can reach it with a special boat that you’ll surely see on the beach. It says on the boat that it leads to the restaurant, and even if you like to go on foot, still decide to go by boat because that way you’ll pass under the cliff that made the tunnel.
La Taverna del Leone is the perfect restaurant if you’re in the mood for traditional Italian food, just the kind that would be prepared by hosts across the coast. This restaurant is the choice of all locals, which is perfect if you want to feel like one of the Italians. In the restaurant, you’ll also get a tasting menu so you can try everything on the menu and then decide what to eat.
Of course, there’s a place in Positano that’s harder to reach, but the food is completely worth the trip. It’s a farm/restaurant La Tagliata and is located above the city, on slightly slippery or uneven terrain. You won’t experience what’s there anywhere else in the world. Pleasant atmosphere, pleasant people, and delicious food, but also a terrace that offers a view of the whole city. Here, however, there’s no menu, there’s a dish of the day. Imagine that you have a farm and that you can harvest different products every day – that’s exactly how La Tagliata restaurant works. Depending on what ingredients they have that day, they prepare food.
Sorrento
Sorrento is a town located on the coast of Sorrento, after which it got its name and is one of the most popular places, next to Naples, visited by tourists.
Trattoria da Emilia is a restaurant located on Sorrento’s Marina Grande, right on the seafront. In the restaurant, you can find specific seafood that has often been visited by celebrities such as Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica. There are often long lines here, so don’t come there with an empty stomach and prepare for the wait. But, the wait will pay off.
It’s clear that you can’t absorb the complete culture of one place just by going and eating in restaurants. Street food is what makes the locals authentic. We believe that even when someone asks you where you should eat – keep fast food in mind. So is the case with Sorrento. In this restaurant, you’ll eat the best sandwiches ever made. While a sandwich may not be something you make a name for, a good sandwich will stay in your mind forever, and you can eat it right at a restaurant called A’Marenna.
Ristorante O’Parrucchiano has a long tradition, and the translation of the name of this restaurant is actually a parish priest because it dates from the 19th century when it was opened by the first owner. The restaurant is located in a grove of lemons above the city, so you’ll have to walk to it, but you’ll undoubtedly enjoy it when you arrive.
Naples
Naples is the place where it was born and where you’ll eat the most delicious pizza ever. Ristorante Mattozzi is a restaurant where the pizza master will greet you when you enter because, in addition to making pizza, he likes to meet the guests who come. The walls of the restaurant are decorated with historical paintings of Naples, and in the evening you can see a large number of locals enjoying dinner. In addition to great pizza, you can also eat authentic pasta or seafood, as well as a variety of desserts.
In Naples, mealtime is a very serious matter, which means that you can find trattorias all over the city, places where workers come when they can’t go for a hot meal at home. One of the most famous places in the city is definitely Cibi Cotti “Nonna Anna”. The place is located on the Mergellina market and in the restaurant you can eat meals that you’d enjoy when you went to your grandmother’s for lunch (“nonna” means old lady, grandmother). Every dish is made from fresh vegetables and pasta.
Another trattoria that you must visit if you want to eat authentic Neapolitan food is Trattoria a Pignata and it’s located deep in the Spanish Quarter. Here you’ll come across young people who stop by for a bite to eat before going out to nightclubs, football matches, betting shops (a little bit old-fashioned way to wager, if you ask us given the abundance of markets on offer at online bookies reviewed on Bookmaker-Expert.com) and casinos, etc… Because it’s very popular, it may be best to go a little earlier, and the dishes are definitely made from fresh ingredients, so you can enjoy them first and foremost.
