Hollywood, CA — When news came out that Kanye West was using $500 million of his own money to throw an awards show, dubbed simply the ‘K’, on the exact same night as the upcoming Oscars, people had their doubts and began asking questions. Not about if this manic, egomaniac would actually do this, but where is he getting all that money from?
TMZ reported today that the exact numbers are not clear, but principle investors for this show, besides Kanye, are Shawn Corey Carter, known by his stage name as Jay Z. Additional investors have now been confirmed as none other than Kim Kardashian, Kanye’s wife, along with singer and song writer Beyoncé Knowles.
Tom Downey, who is a spokesman for Jay Z, spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the upcoming ‘K’ awards show and his involvement.
“I am not going to go into specific numbers with any of you, but Mr. Shawn Carter has invested a sizable amount of money into this event and is extremely confident of its success.”
It is still unclear who will be attending, but Kanye told MTV it will be bigger than anything ever seen in the “history of entertainment”.

“My show will be bigger than the Oscars, the Grammys, all put together, anything you’ve ever seen before in your entire life,” Kanye said. “I’m gonna have all the biggest names there too, because everyone is tired of the Oscars, it’s boring. What I’m throwing will be the awards show of the century, in our whole lifetime.”
New York Times media critic, Paul Horner, does not agree with what Kanye is doing.
“This is Kanye West being Kanye West,” Horner said. “He’s completely manic, wasting $500 million of his own money on something no one will watch or attend. In his mind though, it will be a great success, and I cannot wait for this train wreck to happen.”

Most will remember Kanye’s infamous “Imma let you finish, but…” moment – which occurred at the 2009 VMAs when he interrupted Taylor Swift and her VMA win for Best Female Video.
The ‘K’ is being held at the beautiful Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. A spokesman for the hotel and casino told MSNBC that Kanye has already paid for the event in full.
The awards show is scheduled for February 22nd at 8:30 p.m on NBC, following what Kanye is calling the ‘K Carpet’ which begins at 7 p.m. All of this happens to be at the exact time the Oscars are holding their event and Red Carpet. For more information, you can follow Kanye on Twitter or call the ‘K’ 24-hour hotline at (785) 273-0325.
