Top 5 Tips for Whiter Teeth

One sign of health is having strong white teeth, and furthermore, white teeth give us the confidence to smile, eat and talk. We all make a huge effort to ensure our teeth are looking their best, whether that’s by using whitening toothpastes, brushing our teeth, or visiting the dental hygienist. It’s common sense to do the everyday things that keep our teeth clean, without having to pay out too much money. But what are the top 5 things we can do to achieve a whiter smile?

1.     Brush Your Teeth and Your Tongue

Brushing your tongue is just as important as brushing your teeth. There are varieties of different bacteria that can be found on your tongue, some cause you to have bad breath, while others can contribute to stains on your teeth. Brushing both your teeth and your tongue daily will keep away any nasty odors and will keep your teeth gleaming white.

2.     Citrus/Acidic Food Can Damage Your Teeth

It’s important to keep an eye on the types of food you are eating. Citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons and acidic foods like vinegar can damage the enamel on your teeth. This can lead to your teeth changing color. Don’t despair though, you simply need to wash your mouth out after eating these types of foods to prevent it from happening.

3.     Look at the Color of the Food You Are Eating

While you shouldn’t avoid foods like fruit and vegetables, it may be a good idea to avoid certain foods if you want a brighter smile. You can often tell which foods to avoid by looking at them as their colors can be a real giveaway; tea, coffee and chocolate will all darken your teeth if consumed in large quantities. So, before you indulge in the box of chocolates that you’ve saved from your birthday, or go for an extra cup of coffee before work, think about how important your smile is to you.

4.     Purchase a New Toothbrush

Every good dentist will tell you that you need to make sure your toothbrush is fit for purpose. A fresh toothbrush is much more efficient at bringing off the food that has accumulated on your teeth during the day. If your toothbrush is unable to effectively clean your teeth, then slowly over time they will begin to discolor.

5.     Find a Good Whitening Treatment

Whether you choose to visit a dentist, or buy your own kit online, many people see this as an important way to keep their teeth looking shiny and white. You can minimize stains on your teeth by watching what you eat and keeping your teeth clean, but you will not achieve your dream smile without whitening them in the first place.

It’s becoming extremely important to have shining white teeth due to the new digital age we are living in. Everyone wants to have a Hollywood smile, and there are lots of ways for whitening teeth and preventing our teeth from becoming discolored. Don’t worry if this has already happened; there are lots of other treatment options out there that will leave you with the designer smile you want.
