Things That Can Turn off Your Visitors

Written by Jimmy Rustling

If you are the type of person who loves to welcome guests into your home, you have to make sure that your place looks welcoming and presentable. Guests come in different personalities. Some are the silent but observant types, while others are merely tactless and would not bother beating around the bush to tell you what is on their minds. Avoid the embarrassment and the rude comments about your home by making sure that everything is in order. Put yourself in your guests’ shoes, so you have a better understanding of the things that might turn them off.

Too much stuff inside the house

Seeing piles of boxes in the living room area is not an excellent way to make a first impression. Once your visitors enter your house, they will subconsciously look around and try to notice the things around them. Having too much stuff inside your home makes the place look cramped and disorganized. A few days before your guests are scheduled to arrive, you should start the process of decluttering. Let go of all the old appliances that are no longer working as well as unrepairable furniture by getting in touch with companies like Evergreen Junk Removal Services.

Poor hygiene practices

You may think that people do not notice the small details, but in reality, most of them do. They will see if your curtains and seat covers are dusty and have not been washed for months. Make sure that plates, glasses, cups, and utensils are cleaned and appropriately sanitized before using them. Small stains or smudges will make your visitors think twice about eating the food that you have prepared for them. Some people who are more sensitive to their surroundings might find excuses to leave and look for another place to stay; probably a hotel room where they are assured of a clean place to stay.

Pets walking around the house

Before you decide to accept guests inside your home, you have to understand that not all people are animal lovers. Some of them could have phobias with dogs and cats or even allergies because of their fur. Ask your guests ahead of time if they are comfortable with pets. If not, you could take your pets to your relatives and friends, even for just a few days.

Noisy kids

Children, primarily toddlers, are known to be cute and lovely. However, as soon as they learn how to walk and find their way around the house, they tend to become more hyperactive and loud at times. They can throw tantrums and get in the way of meaningful conversations, which can be very distracting to your visitors. It is best to train your kids how to behave appropriately, especially when there are other people inside the house.

Lastly, make sure that your home, especially your kitchen and bathroom, smells clean and fresh all the time. Aside from cleaning them regularly, it would help to put some air freshener or baking soda to help get rid of unwanted odors.
