How to prepare for NEET Chemistry?

Written by Jimmy Rustling

Given that the bar for NEET 2022 has been set so high, and that the number of registrations increases year after year, preparing for India’s single largest medical entrance examination, the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test- NEET-UG 2022, can be challenging. Medical UG students preparing for the NEET Chemistry exam must therefore learn all of the nuances of the subject.

The NEET 2022 Chemistry syllabus includes questions from both Class 11 and Class 12. Preparation for the NEET Chemistry exam should thus begin as early as Class 11. The NEET Chemistry section contains 50 questions, of which only 45 must be attempted for a total of 180 marks.

How Should You Prepare for the NEET Chemistry Exam?

NEET Chemistry is divided into three parts. Every section is distinct, as is its approach. The same preparation method will not work for all three sections. Each section’s preparation strategy is explained in detail below.

Physical Chemistry

Physical Chemistry will have 15-20 questions, the majority of which will be numerical. Four topics dominate the questions in this section: redox, chemical and ionic equilibrium, electrochemistry, and liquid solutions. The above four topics are the basis for approximately 8-12 questionnaire items in Physical Chemistry.

However, before you begin solving the problems, it is critical that you first understand the concepts. The following is the sequence of events that must be followed while preparing for this section of NEET Chemistry.

  • Read the NCERT chapter.
  • Make a note of the important formula on a piece of paper.
  • Read the same chapter in your preferred reference book.
  • Understand how to use these formulas.
  • Add any additional information found in reference books to your notes.
  • Start answering questions on your own now, and revise in the same order.

General Organic Chemistry

This section of the NEET Chemistry exam will consist of 14-18 questions. General Organic Chemistry is the most important chapter in this section. To do well in this section, you must understand the concepts and their applications. In addition to Isomerism, GOC,  and Effects must be completed. This trio will assist in answering the majority of the questions in this section. Also, before you begin answering the questions in this section, experts recommend that you complete at least hydrocarbons, aldehyde, amines, GOC, alcohol,  and alkyl halide.

Inorganic Chemistry

Ignoring this section of NEET Chemistry is a common mistake made by medical students. In recent years, the number of questions from this section has surpassed those from organic/physical chemistry. In NEET 2021, you can expect 10-18 questions from this section. Chemical bonding, p-blocks, and coordination compounds are all important chapters in this section of NEET Chemistry. Based on these, there are approximately 6-8 questions.

The majority of the questions in this section are taken from NCERT textbooks. As a result, your primary focus for this section should be the NCERT books. Experts advise emphasizing the points that you believe are important and will be asked about during the examination.

In this case, you can skip the reference books and get right to solving problems. You can now refer to the desired reference books once you have completed the NCERT books and solved a variety of questions. Make a note of any additional information you find in the reference book in your NCERT book.

Tips for NEET Preparation for Newcomers

Tip 1 – Before you begin studying for NEET Chemistry, go over the entire Syllabus for NEET Chemistry. Study and comprehend the syllabus’s key topics.

Tip 2 – Create a timeline that prioritizes all segments of physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry. Make certain that no topic is ignored or given too much time. Your schedule, on the other hand, must be flexible if any topic or segment requires more time than allotted.

Tip 3 – Divide each topic into several sections.

Tip 4 – Keep track of your preparations beginning on the first day. Do not give in to laziness. Using self-made notes is one of the most effective ways to pass the NEET Chemistry section.

Tip 5 – If you decide to join a coaching centre, make sure to go over your notes after each class. You will gain a better understanding of the topics this way. Take care to meet all of your daily and weekly objectives.

NEET Chemistry Questions: How to Solve Them

Tips for Taking Notes

Trick 1 – If you already have notes from your coaching centre classes, there is no need to make comprehensive notes again.

Trick 2 – To make the notes more effective, use a neon highlighter or red pen to highlight key concepts.

Trick 3 – You can also add some popular questions that you previously answered so that you can see them again and again when revising your notes.

Trick 4 – You can improve the efficiency of note-taking by including tips or tricks in the margin space provided. This will aid in the prevention of future errors.

Trick 5 – Short notes can be accompanied by full-length notes, but this takes a long time.

Trick 6 – Avoid spending a lot of time making notes over and over again.

Methods for Memorizing Formulas

Trick 1 – Take an interest in the formulas and concepts you’re learning. A lack of interest will make remembering formulas more difficult.

Trick 2 – It is to use visual memory to connect concepts and formulas. This will help with memorization.

Trick 3 –  Rehearse all of the formulas as much as possible. The more you practice, the better your understanding of formula application will become.

Trick 4 – Repeatedly writing down formulas will aid in long-term and rapid memorization.

Trick 5 – You can tape the formulas written on a sheet to the wall so you can see them regularly.

Trick 6 – Before going to bed each night, think about the formulas. You’ll have a good chance of remembering them the next day.

Conclusion

As is well known, the NEET exam is India’s largest medical entrance exam, and medical aspirants would not want to miss out on a chance to pass it at any cost. As a result, one of the most important NEET tips is for candidates to maintain good mental and physical health. They must not panic at any point during their NEET preparation, and if necessary, they must talk to someone about their fears and insecurities. Candidates are advised to have complete faith in their NEET preparation.
