Written by Jimmy Rustling

  • Whatsapp gave users an ultimatum: share your data with Facebook or stop using the platform.
  • SnatchApp and Signal gained the most since users started to abandon Whatsapp.
  • Amazon AWS and Google dropped Parler – causing an effective shutdown for now.
  • SnatchApp reviews topped that of Zoom, Signal and Whatsapp for 3 months consecutively

In recent days Whatsapp users have struggled to come to terms with the chat apps new privacy policies. This has led to the search for alternative chat apps that give their users more and better privacy and security features. Here you will get all the info on the recent changes to Whatsapp as well as the best alternative chat apps out there.

What’s up with Whatsapp?

Last week Wednesday, Whatsapp decided to change their privacy policy. The new terms of service forces users to share personal information like phone numbers, contacts and locations with Facebook. Should users not agree to this new policy, they will not have access to Whatsapp from the 8th of February 2021. In 2014 Whatsapp was bought by Facebook. The founders of Whatsapp, Brian Acton and Jan Koum left the company in 2017 and 2018 due to decisions made by management over users privacy. Many are now opting for an alternative chat app to Whatsapp prompting users to delete Whatsapp and opt for something much more secure.

What’s the alternative?

There are a few chat apps available on the market, the most popular is SnatchApp, Telegram and Signal. All have shown an increase in users since Whatsapp controversial announcement to change their privacy policy.

SnatchApp

SnatchApp has had tremendous success since founded in 2015 by Avi and Henri Benezra. It has over 2000 positive reviews on Google Play and has earned an official rating of 4.2 out of 5. It also has had great success on iTunes. Globally they have had more than 500 000 downloads on Android devices. What makes this chat app a great alternative is that it is one of the most secure chat apps on the market. All messages and calls on SnatchApp are protected with end-to-end encryption and open source messaging. Their encryption utilizes  an amalgamation of 2048-bit RSA encryption, 256-bit-symmetric AES encryption and secure key exchanges for every chat. Having these types of security measures provide SnatchApp users with multi-layering of encryption protection. SnatchApp is also not linked to other big businesses like Facebook, making them more credible and less likely for privacy scrutiny scandals. Another great security feature is that SnatchApp does not keep any copies of messages between their users, making it harder for people within the company as well as external people to hack and see their users’ messages.

SnatchApp is definitely one of the best alternatives for chat apps that are secure and private. Many business owners already have SnatchApp as it is linked with chatbots on their website called SnatchBot. This is another great feature that shows the Benezra brothers innovation when it comes to new technology. Users can set up their chatbots to their chat app and interact with their clients in a very personal way.  SnatchApp is a free, cross-platform messaging app available on all devices.

Signal

Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla owner, has tweeted that users should switch over to Signal. Signal is also protected by end-to-end encrypted messages as well as open source messaging. Singla also does not have any ties to big companies. They have quite a big following which makes it easy to get more friends on the chat app. It is a cross platform messaging application and is free to download and use.

Telegram

Telegram is another alternative to Whatsapp. They also have end-to-end encrypted messaging. However this is not an automatic setting on the chat app like SnatchApp and Signal. Users would have to set this up manually. Telegram, unlike StnatchApp and Signal does not use open source codes that others can download. Telegram does use MTProto that keeps their users safe.

What else is on the market?

There are many other chat app competitors currently on the market trying to get a piece of Whatsapp’s market share. Viber, Threema, Element, Signal, Telegram and SnatchApp is some of the most popular chat apps. It is important to do some research on what the apps have to offer in terms of features as well as security policies and protocols. Not only is SnatchApp the preferred chat app when it comes to security, they also are popular because of their business values and ethics. SnatchApp is by far the most secure chat app on the market.

CEO of SnatchApp, Henri Benezra has been quoted saying that: “ Privacy is a basic universal human right. We feel it is our responsibility to protect each user’s privacy to the best of our abilities.”
