Moving to a New House? Here are 4 Things to Think About

Written by Jimmy Rustling

Moving home is an incredibly exciting time. You have probably dreamed of this day for so long and now it’s finally here. You just want to unpack, get settled and start injecting your own style and personality into the décor. That’s totally understandable and why shouldn’t you enjoy this next chapter in your life to the absolute maximum? We don’t want to take away from the excitement of the move, rather, in this article we’d like to remind you of some of the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to planning the move. Consider all of the below and you’ll limit the stress that normally comes with packing up and moving to another country, city or another side of town.

Think About Financing

Do you have the funds to make all the necessary upgrades to your new space? Or would you benefit from taking out a personal loan from a private lender to finance your next big move? Perhaps you have an emergency savings fund that you set aside for a rainy day? Whatever your situation, you need to determine the amount of money you’ll need to make the move possible and you need to identify where that money is going to come from. Don’t take the ‘it all will all work out’ approach when it comes to financing, as you’ll be setting yourself up for disaster.

Removal Company

If you have a lot of stuff to move from your previous home, a good removal company is vital. Ask friends and family for recommendations, and you can also check Google reviews and social media. The removal company you choose may also be able to provide you with packing supplies, packing services and unpacking services too so this is something to consider if you’re tied up with work or other personal commitments. You should also check that the company you hire is insured so that if anything gets damaged, you will be covered.

De-Clutter

The idea of decluttering may fill you with dread, but getting rid of anything you no longer need is vital if you want a fresh start. Go through your home room by room and be brutal when it comes to deciding what to keep and what to throw out. Have you worn that skirt in the past year? Bin or recycle it if not. Will you use the waffle maker that’s currently collecting dust in your kitchen cupboard? Give it away to someone that will.

Plan Where You Want Everything to Go

It’s time to take a pen to paper and really get down to the nitty gritty. Draw a diagram of each room in your new home and map out where the big items of furniture and fixtures will go. Once you’ve done that, break things down a little more by making a list of where smaller items such as clothing and appliances will go. Create that visual picture in your head and make sure you’re happy with the finished results. Do this and you’ll save yourself so much time and stress when the time comes to unpack and get settled.
