Fantasy football is a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of work. It can take months to research for the draft and then every week, you have to set your lineup. It’s definitely not a set it and forget it type of scenario.
However, the reward when you invest your time and resources is that you can end up winning a lot of money. There are two ways to go about it. You can do a daily league in which you win or lose that day. Or, you can join a league that runs the length of the NFL season so you don’t win until the very end.
There are some big differences between the two so it pays to understand them before you decide which way to go. In this article, we will cover them head to head so you can make an informed decision.
How you draft
When you draft for the season long fantasy league, you will have to put in some research during the summer to get ready for the draft. The strategy is going to be much different for how you draft for season long compared to daily.
In NFL DFS, you are not doing months of research as your draft happens the day of the game. You are only taking minutes to decide who to draft. You can end up having an all star team roster for daily that is very unlikely for season long due to the difference in draft structures.
With a daily league draft you can end up with Tom Brady, Rob Gornkowski and Aaron Rogers on the same team. Since some season long draft systems are auctions or even dynasty types, you are not likely to have such a deep roster as this.
The winnings
Of course the difference most people are curious about is how much money you can win. Well, it ranges quite a bit for both. It highly depends on your league as to which type will pay you more.
However, the potential to make more money is greater when playing in daily. You have the possibility to win literally every week. And winning is a bit easier when playing a daily league as you are matched up against another team and not against the entire league.
Even if the daily league payouts are not that high you can still make out by winning regularly.
How you match up
The strategies are a lot different when setting up your roster in the two leagues. With season long you really have to have your best players on the field no matter what the match up is like. Even if your running back struggles against a certain team’s defense, it is unlikely that you’ll have a better player available.
When playing a daily league, you will draft according to the best matchup for that day. You don’t need to have the best running back in the league, you just need the best one for that particular game.
